Imbolc: Festival of Fire and Fertility

February 1st-2nd Beginning of Spring St. Brigid Feast

Feast of Torches, Oimelc, Luppercali, Feast of Pan, Snowdrop Festival, Feast of the Waxing Light

Imbolc is a Gaelic Festival of light and fertility. Traditionally celebrated in Europe with huge bonfires and fire in every from. A time of planting seeds both literally and symbolically.

Sabbat of Purification

Spring cleaning, feasting, divination

Fire represents our own illumination and inspiration as much as light and warmth.

An old Scandinavian custom is to wear a crown of lit candles.

Imbolc is a time for self-dedication rituals, when new witches commit to the path of wicca. Symbols of the seasons are snowflakes, white flowers, cinnamon, frankincense and rosemary.

Snow can be melted and used for circle casting and spells.

It is traditional to light every lamp in the house, just after sunset or light candles in every room.
